The Olympic Games are
taking place in London from the 27th July to the 12th August 2012. It
was decided on the 6th July 2005 by the International Olympic
Committe that the 2012 Olympic Games were to be held in London.
The 2012 Olympic Games
are expected to bring many benefits to the UK, especially London
where many areas will be redeveloped. However, there has been much
criticism of the budget for the London Games.
There are new sports
zones and existing facilities across the country will also be used.
There are sports venues all over London, with many in well known and
popular locations such as Hyde Park.
The 2012 Olympic Games
Park and main stadium are in Stratford, East London. It has been a
huge regeneration project.
There will be 26 sports
and a total of 38 disciplines at the Games. The Paralympic Games will
feature 20 sports and 21 disciplines. London’s bid actually planned
for 28 sports, matching previous Summer Olympic Games, but the
International Olympic Committee voted to remove both baseball and
softball from this year's Games.
