Countdown to the Football World Cup in Brazil!

The 20th FIFA World Cup will be held in Brazil from 12 June to 13 July 2014. It is an international men's football tournament held every four years.

It will be the second time that Brazil has hosted the competition, the previous being in 1950. This is the fifth time the tournament will be staged in South America.

A total of 64 matches are to be played in twelve cities across Brazil in either new or redeveloped stadiums.

Spain is the defending champion, having won its first world title by defeating the Netherlands 1–0 in the 2010 final.

Football ("soccer" in American) sometimes brings out the best in people. Nelson Paviotti, who is a lawyer, lives in Campinas, Sao Paulo. He is the biggest fan of his national team: Brazil. For the past twenty years, he has only worn outfits consisting of the colours of the Brazilian national flag because he promised to only wear these colours if Brazil won the world cup in 1994. He has of course decorated his home especially for the upcoming 2014 World Cup in Brazil…

Questions:
  1. What do you think of Nelson’s fanaticism?
  2. Which national team do you support and which nation do you think will win the 2014 World Cup?
  3. How big a sports fan are YOU?!

Assignment 1:
Give a one-minute oral presentation on an aspect of Brazil that really interests you (its history, geography, social mix, leading figures, religious practices, customs, sporting legends, or recent social unrest, etc.).

Assignment 2:
Write a comment to this blog giving your World Cup predictions.

Assignment 3:
Write a comment to this blog giving your opinion of the 2014 World Cup (matches, players, results, supporters, organization, etc.).

I am not going to give you the result of each match because it would take too much time. However, I am going to give you my prognosis concerning the two teams which would, in my opinion, exit of each group:
    GROUP A: Brezil and Mexico.
    GROUP B: Spain and Netherlands.
GROUP C: Colombia and Ivory Coast.
    GROUP D: Italia and Uruguay.
    GROUP E: France and Honduras
    GROUP F: Argentina and Nigeria.
    GROUP G: Germany and Portugal.
    GROUP H: Belgium and Russia.

  4. The choice of Brazil for this tournament is fantastic. Although that I can not see the condition of stadiums in Brazil, I think this competition will be a success because Brazil is a land of football, Brazil live football and breathes football! As you know, there are a lot of poor people so I think this Word Cup can to give back the smile to street children and all family because football gather everyone around a soccer field to shout ,to cry ,to cheer their team without social divides. The world will experience an event of greats emotions for 1 month, all this through sport…
    Also, my predictions:
    G.A: Brezil and Mexico.
    G.B: Spain and Chile.
    G.C: Greece and Japan.
    G.D: England and Uruguay.
    G.E: France!! and Switzerland.
    G.F: Argentina and Bosnia.
    G.G: Germany and Portugal.
    G.H: Belgium and Korea.

BUT I'M REALLY ANGRY BECAUSE I DO NOT FIND SCOTLAND, THE BEST FOOTBALL TEAM IN HISTORY !!!

  5. (assignment 3).
So, let's give my opinion about this FIFA World Cup 2014. Actually, it's the same as before: I dont' care. Maybe it's rude to say that on a blog which talks about sports fanatics, but we asked me my opinion.
I've never followed any football matches and I'm not going to start this year. I don't know the players (neither their name, nor in which team they're playing). So, let's hope they will play well so as to entertain you. The results are unpredictable, except if you have a crystal ball. But you don't have one, have you? The supporters will be as crazy, as usual and we won't be able to sleep if France wins the FIFA (hopefully, it's almost impossible since everybody says so). Because of that, we will only have some drunk people in small, dark streets... As for the Brezil, I hope he will earn a lot of money in order to compensate for the 2016 JO (the one in Rio).
    Thanks for reading this comment!

  6. Assignement 3 :

My opinion of the 2014 World Cup ? Héhé… I don’t really care about football. It’s boring me… I prefer rugby with big men and their big cauliflower ears !
Seriously, in what is this interesting to see ugly men with supid hairstyles giving a kick in a round ball?
Moreover, it isn’t like if the players are interesting and intelligent, to believe that the blow-of-head are harmful for their brain… With reflexion, I think is that.
I never followed any football matches and I live very well without that.
Finally, let us finish with a positive message : perhaps this time, the players will want well get out of the bus, and will make good matches !
